A common assumption is that PC gamers need way more internet than console players. In practice, the real gap is smaller than people think — but it does exist, and the reason is not what most players expect.
For raw multiplayer traffic, a PS5, Xbox Series X, and a mid-range gaming PC are all using very similar bandwidth during a match. The difference shows up in downloads. A modern console game update can be 60 to 100 GB. A AAA PC release can push past 150 GB. On a 100 Mbps plan, that is hours of waiting. On a gigabit plan, it is minutes. When you factor in cloud saves, day-one patches, and party chat, the household need scales quickly.
Both platforms also benefit equally from low ping. A ping under 50 ms is the target for casual play on either. Under 20 ms is what competitive Apex or Warzone players are chasing on both PC and console. For a clean summary of what speed and ping numbers to actually shop for based on your platform, Verizon's guide to internet speed for gaming and ping rate is a good starting point.
